RNC:LIVE FEED

By Politics • Sep 4th, 2008 • Category: Politics

That’s right, we’ve got the LIVE FEED from the RNC (the crowd goes wild). I wish I knew this was possible before, or I would have done it for the DNC and the other nights of the RNC which weren’t quite as dull-sounding.

The Lineup:

8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Speaker: U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.)
  • Video: “Vice Presidential Nominee Governor Sarah Palin”
  • Speaker: Former Gov. Tom Ridge (Penn.)
  • Video: “America’s Place in the World”
  • Speaker: Mrs. Cindy McCain

9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Video: “Senator John McCain”
  • Speaker: Presidential Nominee John McCain

10 p.m. to Conclusion

  • Floor Demonstration, Balloon Drop, McCain and Palin Families on Stage
  • Introduction of Presiding Officer: U.S. House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio)
  • Benediction: Pastor Dan Yeary
  • Introduction of Delegate for Motion, Adoption and Adjournment: U.S. House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio)

Enjoy the show. I’ll be in the room and blogging sporadically. If there is anything to blog about.

Editor’s note: Obviously the live feed is over. We’ve replaced the stream with a clip of the last part of McCain’s speech for those who missed it.

Politics. Left, Right, and Center, and everything in between. We're not a political magazine, but sometimes it's hard to resist joining in on the fun.

  1. Oooh. We have live TV. Holy bejezus, You know what this is missing? Passed hors de oeuvres. Oh, and better stage management, but whatevs.

  2. These people shouldn’t dance. Seriously, stop it.

  3. INTERMISSION
John McCain up next. The night thus far is a total snore, not even close to the excitement of yesterday. But in good news, Tampa Bay is wiping the floor with the Yankees. Lesser of two evils kinda deal there.

  4. Meh.

I am struck by how tasteless protesters are. How come I don’t remember them at the DNC? Is it that there is nothing to protest?

    Answer: No.

I’m sure people will stay far away from this thread tomorrow, though I am interested in alternate reactions. I know the mezine community hails from both parties and that’s how I like it.

  5. I haven’t watched TV in ages so I am very excited to watch this. That Palin reminds me of Andrea Zuckerman from 90210 only maybe slightly hotter. She makes me nervous. Obama makes me nervous as well. I am voting for the Harrison Ford.

  6. It’s no longer live, but the screen now has a pre-recorded cut of McCain’s speech. If possible, skip to the last 15 minutes, it’s a little dry. Though, one poignant part that I did not realize until today is that McCain rarely talks about his time as a POW. So, that made that part much more moving than it was on face value.

One quick note: This is not verified yet, but I read that the protesters’ badges were traced back to MSNBC. If that’s true, someone has some explainin’ to do.

  7. Don’t tell me that now Repulicans are conspiracy theorists…..

I thought McCain’s speech was reasonable. Although he failed to mention the economy in any meaningful way, which is interesting given that it is the number one concern for 68% of the voters. Machiavelli had it right. “If your position is not supported by facts, mis-direction is a valid strategy” Or something like that.

And also, how many sets of pearls do the women at this convention own? Paging June Cleaver! Your table is ready!

I will now go try to tax and spend something.

  8. Also, how many times do we have to chant U S A!, U S A! Nothing like blind patriotism. It’s just better when it’s displayed at a hockey game and not in a presidential election. According to the Republican modus operundi, isn’t is also about time to start talking about Flag burning, gay marriage and other irrelevant issues to galvanize the electorate?

Sorry. I just woke up angry.

  9. That’s funny. You brought up something really interesting. Republicans chanted “U-S-A” while Democrats chanted “O-ba-ma”. Blind love of country vs. blind love of one man? The latter sounds very Jim Jones to me.

I’m not sure what you mean by “in a meaningful way”, but he mentioned job creation, job re-training, energy independence, lower taxes and education as ways to stimulate the economy. It was probably a third of his speech. He even took the Republicans to task for corruption and being complicit in big government spending. These things were just as big a part of the speech as foreign policy, though not as big a part as his own story. I guess you have to keep in mind what he needed to accomplish with his speech.

You know, you’re not the only person I’ve heard who said he was angry after last night. I guess I don’t really get why that reaction is so prevalent, but because of that I am deeply in the closet with my views. I live in NYC and work in media, so you know I’m in a very small minority. This is what happened at the DNC last week:

My friend C went with a press crew made up of people who work for my parent company. When the people in the crew saw Fox News’ equipment lying around, they peed on it. Fox News is no more to the right than MSNBC is to the left, in fact there are definite lefties at Fox (Shep Smith for one). Fox hasn’t come out in support of slavery or Hitler, so WTF?

I was out with a friend and these two guys came up to us. One was talking to me (ugly) and he mentioned an Obama rally. I told him I was a Republican and he walked away in mid sentence. Why do you guys hate us so passionately? Is it because we think you’re all pussies?

    (just kidding)

No amount of talking will make you like McCain better, just like the opposite holds true for me. I think it’ll be a fun fight, regardless.

  10. To clear up the conspiracy theory, the Code Pink chicks got in by stealing someone’s credentials. Not by the aid of MSNBC peeps.

But the moon landing? Totally a fake.

  11. MeZine dudes, sorry about the lack of content. I’m down with the sickness today. I’ll probably be all better tomorrow and will post fancy posts for you then.
