Where’s My Flying Car?
By Technology • Jul 21st, 2008 • Category: TechnologyWritten by Bender, Feb 10, 2005
It’s 2005 and we’ve got serious technology. Computers everywhere –in homes, cars, shirt pockets. Politicians debate human cloning. this guy says we’ll be able to live forever (or close to it) in as little as 25 years and people take him somewhat seriously.
It’s all moving fast, people, and Ferris Bueller was right when he said that if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.
It took a long time, but all those 1950s futurists who talked up the “Home of the Future” are finally seeing their visions realized, if they’re still alive.
But but but… Where are the flying cars, the sentient computers, the cures for cancer and heart disease, the teleportation devices, the robot vacuum cleaners? Ah wait, we have robot vacuum cleaners. Well, you get my point.
The more we have the more we want. It’s not about what we have, but what’s on the horizon.
And that’s my question for you: what is on the horizon? Do you think we’ll soon see another giant leap like we saw with the sudden pervasiveness of the Internet, or will we see the incremental refinement of our existing technology without a big revolution for many, many years? And what will the next giant leap be? A medical miracle? A robot housekeeper in every home? True artificial intelligence? Electric pencil sharpeners?
Technology. Whether it's the latest gadget, the coolest new software, or news about future whizbangery, MeZine will keep you abreast of the wonderful world of technology.
