Kiss My Class: A Political Post-Mortem

By Politics • Jul 21st, 2008 • Category: Politics

Tuesday night, Republicans lost control of congress in an unfortunate bloodbath of an election. Today, faced with a Pelosi-run future and the quiet rumblings of an Impeachment hearing, Republicans are licking their wounds and trying to make the best of the situation. What’s struck me today was how differently the Republicans handle loss than the Democrats. I kept looking out the window for people running in circles screaming about Chimpy McPelosi-Hitler, but all I heard was a Pelosi Botox joke. And I was the one who told it.
Republicans are stunned, sad, and angry about losing Congress, but they’re taking this loss in stride and trying to fix what was broken (while looking ahead to 2008 when we will kick ASS). The voice that is rising up from the Right isn’t shrill, isn’t whiny, and certainly isn’t trying to conjure responsibility-deflecting conspiracy theories. So what makes Republicans different than Democrats? What aren’t you seeing from the party that lost Congress?
What you are not seeing:

Screaming that the election was stolen.

Celebrities getting the vapors.

Counselors treating post election shock trauma.

Obituaries blaming Bush for despondency leading to death.
Republicans were gracious winners and they are showing themselves to be similarly gracious losers. They have a philosophy that is greater than politics, and this is why I’m a Republican.

Plus, the pinkie-in-the-air thing.

Politics. Left, Right, and Center, and everything in between. We're not a political magazine, but sometimes it's hard to resist joining in on the fun.
