Has Suck Sucked It’s Last Breath?

Via Metafilter, news comes that Suck.com is down.
Suck hasn’t published new material in years, but all the old stories were still up and readable on the site. Until now.
Suck was offbeat, ironic, acerbic, and very, very funny. I’m not ashamed to admit that when MeZine as launched I was trying to be Suck. Filler, a weekly cartoon by Polly Esther (AKA Heather Havrilesky), was the best cartoon on the web. “The Fish,” their letters section, was genius. They even answered a question from yours truly (mine is the third letter on the page. And yes, I once had an AOL account). I’m still smarting from their sarcastic beatdown.
What became of all these unique writers? Havrilesky writes for Salon and maintains her own blog. Founder Carl Steadman has his own site and runs the culture blog Plastic. Cartoonist Terry Colon used to have a site, but it’s gone too. Ambrose Beers and Tim Cavanaugh are over at Reason.
But there’s no Suck. And while this isn’t new news, it’s underscored by the site suddenly going dark. Suck had already burned out, and now it has faded away. Goodbye Sucksters.
Technology. Whether it's the latest gadget, the coolest new software, or news about future whizbangery, MeZine will keep you abreast of the wonderful world of technology.
